MANILA, Philippines — Kumpiyansa ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) na magwawagi ang bansa ng kauna-unahang gold medal sa 2024 Paralympic Games sa Paris, France.

Ang basehan ni PSC Commissioner Walter Torres ay ang mga nakaraang performances ng mga Pinoy Para athletes sa Asean at Asian Para Games.

“Considering our athle­tes performances in several tournament abroad like the Asean and Asian Para Games in the past years, we have a good chance to win medal in Paris,” ani Torres kahapon sa Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) ‘Usapang Sports’ sa VIP Room ng Rizal Memorial Coliseum sa Malate, Manila.

Tanging sina ASEAN multi medalist swimmer Angel Otom at Para legend Ernie Gawilan ang may tsansang makakuha ng Paralympic berth.

“They only need to maintain their respective ranking inside the Top 10. Although, may naka-schedule pang qualifying meet na sasalihan ang dalawa,” sabi ng dating Vice-President ng Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (Philspada) at Commissioner-in-Charge sa Para-athletes sa TOPS na itinataguyod ng PSC, Behrouz Persian Cuisine at Pocari Sweat.

Maglalaan ang sports agency ng pondo para sa pagsabak ng mga Pinoy Para athletes sa mga Paralympics qualifying tournaments.

Nakatakda ang Paralympics sa Agosto 28 hanggang Setyembre 8.

Idinagdag ni Torres na patuloy ang kooperasyon ng PSC at Philspada para maisulong ang isang national tournament kagaya ng Batang Pinoy at Philippine National Games para sa mga Para athletes.
