MANILA, Philippines — Hindi kailangang malungkot ng mga atletang hindi makapag-uuwi ng medalya ngayong Tokyo Olympics — pati kasi sila, makakukuha ng gantimpala sa kanilang pagkatawan sa Pilipinas sa world stage.

Ang halaga? Mga kalahating milyon lang naman o P500,000.

Manggagaling ang insentibo mula sa Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) at MVP Sports Foundation.

"Everyone on Team Philippines in these 'Golden Olympics' deserves all the praises, and in this case, incentives, they need," ani POC president Bambol Tolentino.

"Qualifying for the Olympics is already that difficult, what more competing in the Games."

Kasama sa mga atletang bigong makasungkit medalya mula sa Olympics ngayong taon sina:

  • Cris Nievarez (rowing), Kurt Barbosa (taekwondo)
  • Margielyn Didal (skateboarding)
  • Jayson Valdez (shooting)
  • Carlos Yulo (gymnastics)
  • Irish Magno (boxing)
  • Kiyomi Watanabe (judo)
  • Elreen Ando (weightlifting)
  • Juvic Pagunsan (golf)
  • EJ Obiena (pole vault), and Kristina Knott (200m dash)
  • Remedy Rule (swimming)
  • Luke Gebbie (swimming)

Hindi bababa sa P35.5 milyon ang pabuyang matatanggap ng gold medalist na si Hidilyn Diaz matapos niyang maging matagumpay sa Olympic weightlifting noong nakaraang linggo. Bukod pa 'yan sa bahay at lupa, sasakyan, libreng gasolina, atbp.

Nasa P17 milyon naman ang iuuwi ng boksingerang si Nesthy Petecio matapos niyang makapagpanalo ng silver medal, maliban pa sa "unli flights," bahay at lupa at condominium.

Garantisado na rin ng medalya ang mga boksingerong Pinoy gaya nina Eumir Marcial at Carlo Paalam, ngunit hindi pa nagtatapos ang kanilang mga laban.
