Ateneo inangkin ang korona ng UAAP men’s at women’s swimming

MANILA, Philippines – Pinitas ng Ateneo De Ma­nila University ang ka­nilang unang UAAP swimming championship double makaraang magbida sa Season 77 men’s at wo­­men’s divisions compe­ti­tions sa Rizal Memorial Swim­ming Pool noong Linggo.

Sa pangunguna ni 2014 Incheon Asian Games ve­te­ran Jessie Khing Lacuna, humakot ang Blue Eagles ng 540 points para agawan ng korona ang University of the Philippines na nagtala ng 325 points.

Naglista ng mga ba­gong re­cord sa pinaghariang 200m indivi­dual medley (2:05.59), 400m freestyle (4:04.86), 100m but­terfly (56.01), 200m freestyle (1:53.02), 50m butterfly (25.47), 400m individual med­ley (4:37.10) at 200m but­­terfly (2:03.93) para sa ma­ximum na 105 points, hi­­nirang si Lacuna bilang men’s Most Valuable Pla­yer.

Ito ang ikalawang men’s championship ng Ateneo sa nakaraang tatlong taon.

Bukod kay Lacuna nag­­bida rin para sa Blue Eagles si Aldo Batungbacal na kinilalang Rookie of the Year matapos burahin ang 13-year old record ni Tim­my Chua sa 200m breaststroke para sa kanyang bagong league mark na 2:24.23 para kumolekta ng 90 points.

Nagreyna ang La­dy Eagles, nakamit ang una ni­lang korona no­ong 2008, sa naiposteng 468 points para agawan ng korona ang UP Lady Ma­roons (430).

Kinilala naman si rookie transferee Hannah Dato bilang MVP sa hinakot na pitong gold medals at bi­nura ang mga UAAP mark sa 200m indivi­dual medley (2:21.66), 400m freestyle (4:30.76), 100m butterfly (1:02.22), 200m freestyle (2:07.87), 50m butterfly (28.20), 400m individual medley (5:05.08) at 200m butterfly (2:19.71).
