Iran mabigat na kalaban para sa titulo--Toroman

MANILA, Philippines - Bilang isang dating head coach ng Iran, alam ni Rajko Toroman ng Barako Bull ang kakayahan ng mga Iranians sa kasaluku­yang 27th FIBA-Asia Cham­pionships.

 â€œThey’ve been together as a unit for years,” sabi ng Serbian mentor sa Iran na kanyang iginiya sa korona ng 2007 FIBA-Asia Championships patungo sa 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.  “I think there are only one or two players in the team whom I haven’t coached so the nucleus is virtually intact.  The Iranian federation realized how important chemistry is that they decided not to include Arsalan (Kazemi) in the lineup.”

Ang 22-anyos na si Arsalan, isang 6-7 forward, ay nakuha sa second round ng Washington Wizards sa 2013 NBA draft bago dinala sa Philadelphia sa pamamagitan ng trade.

Naglaro si Arsalan ng tatlong taon sa Rice University at nagtala ng double-double sa dalawang seasons hanggang lumipat sa University of Oregon para tapusin ang kanyang NCAA eligibility.

Sinasabing handa na siyang kumampanya para sa Iran sa 2013 FIBA-Asia Championships, ngunit hinarang ito ng federation officials ng Iran sa pagsasabing baka makagulo lamang siya sa sistema ng koponan.

Ang Iran ay binabande­rahan nina 7-2 Hamed Had­dadi, 6-6 Samad Nikkhah Bahrami at 6-1 Mahdi Kamrani. 

“If you would choose someone to naturalize, the model is Haddadi,” sabi ni Toroman.  “He’s a dominant inside player who understands the game.”

Tinalo ng Iran ang Malaysia, 115-25, para buksan ang kanilang kampanya sa FIBA-Asia noong nakaraang Huwebes.

Matapos ito ay binigo naman nila ang Korea, 76-65, at ang China, 70-51.

Ang Iran ay minamandohan ngayon ni Slovenian coach Memi Becirovic.
