NSAs sports program rerebisahin ni Garcia

MANILA, Philippines – Sa kabiguan ng ilang Filipino athletes na ma­ka­kuha ng tiket para sa 2012 Olympic Games sa London, kailangang rebisahin ng mga National Sports Associations (NSAs) ang kanilang mga sports prog­ram.

Ito ang sinabi kahapon ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Garcia matapos matalo sa kani-kanilang sinalihang Olympic qualifying tournaments sina bo­xer Charly Suarez, lady weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz at rowers Nestor Cordova at Johna Lyn Pedrita.

Tanging si amateur boxer Mark Anthony Barriga pa lamang ang nakatiyak nang makakalahok sa 2012 London Olympics, habang may tig-dalawa namang mandatory entry ang athletics at swimming at isa sa shooting.

Dahil sa kabiguan ng bansang madagdagan ang naturang bilang ng mga atleta, muling ipinanukala ni Garcia ang pagpapatupad ng pagkakaroon ng 10 priority sports na tatampukan ng halos 150 national athletes.

Tanging ang silver me-dal ni light flyweight Mansueto ‘Onyok’ Velasco, Jr. noong 1996 sa Atlanta, USA ang pinakamataas na karangalan na nakamit ng bansa sa paglahok sa nasabing quadrennial event.
