WBO chief pa ang nagtutulak para matuloy ang Pacquiao-Cotto fight

MANILA, Philippines – Mismong ang pangulo ng World Boxing Organization (WBO) ang nagtutulak na maging isang championship fight ang itinatakdang banggaan nina Manny Pacquiao at Miguel Angel Cotto.

Gusto ni WBO president Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel na itaya ng 28-anyos na si Cotto ang kanyang hawak na WBO welterweight crown kontra sa 30-anyos na si Pacquiao.

Hinikayat ni Valcarcel ang WBO Board na ilagay si Pacquiao, ang world five-division champion, sa No. 1 spot upang maging mandatory challenger ng Puerto Rican na si Cotto.

"I made the request to the committee to place Pacquiao in the number one position for the fight for Cotto's title," ani Valcarcel sa panayam ng Primera Hora.

Idinagdag ni Valcarcel na nakausap na niya ang promoter nina Pacquiao at Cotto na si Bob Arum ng Top Rank Promotions para sa kanyang panukala na gawing isang championship bout ang naturang upakan sa Nobyembre 14 sa MGM Grand Garden Arena sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

"I've already spoke with Bob Arum and agreed the fight will be for the title," wika ni Valcarcel.

Ang pagtataya ni Cotto, nagdadala ng 33-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 27 KOs, ng kanyang WBO welterweight belt ang isa sa mga isyu na pinaplantsa ni Arum.

"Miguel's title is part of the negotiations that are still ongoing," sabi ni Gabriel Penagaricano, ang legal adviser ni Cotto. "It will be one of the aspects to consider during the fight discussions."
