Rivero nasorpresa ni Manalo

MANILA, Philippines - Niyanig ni Camille Ma­nalo, dating miyem­bro ng Philippine training pool mula sa University of San­to Tomas, ang two-time Olympian na si Toni Ri­vero ng Ateneo upang makopo ang welterweight gold me­dal sa nakaraang Smart/Petron CPJ (Carlos Pa­lan­ca Jr.) taekwondo cham­pionships sa Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Hiniya ng 18-anyos na si Manalo ang Athens at Beijing Olympic veteran na si Rivero via sudden-death matapos na mag­tabla sa 2-2 sa pagtatapos ng dalawang rounds.

“Both Toni and Camille delivered a kick each, but Camille’s shot proved to be more telling,” ani ng isang official. Isa pang dating trai­ning pool mem­ber--ang flyweight na si Caryn Pi­longo ng UST ang hu­matak ng isa pang sor­presa matapos na talunin ang national player na si Sugar Catalan ng UP-Dili­man.

Nakaligtas naman si Tshom­lee Go ng Air Force ang nagbulsa naman ng ban­tamweight gold mata­pos igupo si Jeffrey Figue­roa.
