Pirma muna, bago maniwala si Peñalosa kay Ponce De Leon

Hanggang hindi pumipirma si Mexican world super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon sa fight contract ay hindi maniniwala ang kampo ni Filipino world bantamweight titlist Gerry Peñalosa na matutuloy ang kanilang rematch.

Ayon sa adviser ng 35-anyos na si Peñalosa na si Billy Keane, dati nang naghamon ang kampo ng 27-anyos na si Ponce De Leon para sa isang rematch. Ngunit ito ay hindi nangyari.

“Hard to say, because it’s one of those situations where the fighter says he really wants it, but then doesn’t really take the steps to make it happen,” ani Keane kay Ponce De Leon. “So I don’t really know if he wants the fight or not.”

Napanatili ni Ponce De Leon ang kanyang suot na World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight belt matapos umiskor ng kontrobersyal na unanimous decision sa kanilang laban ni Peñalosa noong Marso 17.

Isang eight-round TKO ang iniskor ni Peñalosa kay Mexican Jhonny Gonzales noong Agosto 11 para agawin ang hawak nitong WBO bantamweight title.

Nakatakda sanang idepensa ni Peñalosa ang kanyang WBO bantamweight crown laban kay Thai challenger Ratanachai Sor Vorapin sa Marso 2 sa Araneta Coliseum kundi ito naibasura ng Golden Boy Promotions at ng ABS-CBN bunga ng inaasahang mahinang pagpasok ng mga tv sponsors. 

Ang magandang purse prize ang gustong malinawan ng adviser ni Ponce De Leon na si Joe Hernandez bago sila pumirma sa kontrata para sa rematch.

“The most important thing, the issue of the purse. I think the purse is very important; we don’t want to go to the Philippines and give our title away for our minimum purse,” ani Hernandez. “So I think it will take a couple minor details.” (RCadayona)
