May bagong PBA commissioner na sa Enero

Sa Enero pa ng susunod na taon inaasahang mag-uupo ng bagong Commissioner ang Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Board.

Ito ay matapos ipinagpaliban kamakalawa ng PBA Board of Governors ang pagkilala sa bagong PBA Commissioner bunga ng kabiguan ng mga nominadong sina Nextel president Lambert Ramos, PBA legal counsel Atty. Chito Salud at Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Patrick Gregorio na makahugot ng two-thirds vote o anim sa siyam na boto ng PBA Board.

Umabot sa limang oras ang ginawang presentasyon ng 56-anyos na si Ramos, ng 45-anyos na si Salud, anak ni dating PBA Commissioner Atty. Rudy Salud, at ng 40-anyos na si Gregorio, kapatid ni Purefoods’ coach Ryan Gregorio bago ang halos tatlong oras na deliberasyon ng PBA Board. 

“After two and a half hours of deliberation, the Board decided to adjourn the meeting. Meaning, nobody got the minimum six votes,” sabi ni PBA Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Sonny Barrios.

Itinakda ng PBA Board, binubuo nina chairman Tony Chua ng Red Bull, Buddy Encarnado ng Sta. Lucia, Robert Non ng Barangay Ginebra, Lito Alvarez ng Air21, Atty. Mamerto Mondragon ng Welcoat, Joaqui Trillo ng Alaska, Rene Pardo ng Purefoods, Ricky Vargas ng Talk ‘N Text at Ely Capacio ng Magnolia, ang susunod na pulong sa Enero 10 ng 2008.

Nauna nang inilista bilang nominado para sa PBA Commissionership sina PBA Technical Director Ricky Palou, businessman Arben Santos, national coaches Chot Reyes, Norman Black, dating PBA Board member Bert Manlapit at Carlo Singson ng NBA-Asia bago nag-atrasan. (R.Cadayona)
