213 atleta binigyan parangal at insentibo ni GMA

Ipinagkaloob ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sa 213 atletang Pinoy ang kani-kanilang awards dahil sa pagbibigay nila ng karangalan sa bansa sa iba’t ibang international sports competitions.

Tinaguriang ‘A Salute to the Filipino Athlete-Honoring Past Achievers in Philippine Sports’ ang nasabing event ay bunga ng Republic Act 9064 na kilala bilang ‘Sports Benefits and Incentives Act 2001’ na nilagdaan ng Pangulo noong Abril 5 ng nakaraang taon.

At sa simpleng seremonya na idinaos sa Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel sa Pasay City, pangungunahan rin ng Pangulo ang pamamahagi ng tseke sa mga atleta na nanalo ng gold, silver bronze medals sa international competitions gaya ng Olympic Games, quadrennial World Championships, Asian Games at SEA Games.

Pinamunuan ni 6-time World FIQ champion Olivia ‘Bong’ Coo ang mga Pinoy athletes na tumanggap ng cash incentives.

Si Coo, ang unang Pinay na itinampok sa Guinness Book of World Records at tumanggap ng halagang P1,000,000.00 ang P20% ng kanyang kabuuang cash award na limang milyon.

Sumunod kay Coo na tumanggap ng pinakamalaking insentibo ay ang yumaong bowler na si Lita Dela Rosa , na nagkakahalaga ng P3.7 million at ikatlo si 4-time World Cup champion Paeng Nepomuceno na may P2.7M.

Tumanggap naman ang Olympic boxing silver medalist Anthony Villanueva at Mansueto ‘On-yok’ Velasco ng P1.2M at 1.7M ayon sa pagkakasunod.

"This is a significant achievement for the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). These veterans are the inspiration of the young athletes and sports officicials to strive for excellence," ani PSC chairman Eric Buhain.
