Gajasan pinayukod ni Cruz sa Union Cement International Tennis Tourney

Pinayukod ni Deena Rose Cruz si Arianne Gajasan, 4-0, 4-2, 4-1 kahapon sa qualifying round upang umusad sa main draw ng $10,000 Union Cement International Tennis Federation-Philippine Women’s Futures Week 1 sa Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Ang iba pang nakakuha ng slot sa main draw ay sina Geminesse Co na umiskor ng 4-2, 4-1, 4-0 panalo kontra Debbie Ong at Josephine Paguyo na humatak naman ng 4-0, 4-1, 4-0 pamamayani kontra Vanessa Gutierrez.

Ang iba pang qualifiers ay sina Kristel Samala, Ziarla Battad at Indonesian Dea Sumantri.

Nabigyan naman ang mga locals na sina Jennifer Saret, Czarina Mae Arevealo at Indon Romana Tedjakusuma ng wild card entries sa 32-man main draw na may nakalaang $1,568 cash at limang WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) points sa singles champion.

Magpapakita ng aksiyon ang mga manlalaro mula sa 10 bansa sa ITF Grand Slam Development Fund-sponsored event sa pamumuno ng world’s No. 308 Shelley Stephens ng New Zealand. At dahil sa naaprobahan na sa isinagawang ITF Annual General Meeting nitong kaagahan ng taong kasalukuyan, gagamitin sa nasabing tournament ang alternative scoring system na tatawaging "short sets."
