MANILA, Philippines - An all-Filipino design team led by Aidea Philippines Inc. won the major award at the recently concluded BIM Buzz@Singapore 2011. Aidea’s design of a resort hotel was awarded the Best Use of BIM for Sustainability, Buildability and Constructability Professional Category. The award was conferred during the Building Smart International Conference in Singapore.
The 48-hour competition was organized by Building Smart Singapore and the Building Construction Authority of Singapore. Sixteen international teams participated in the professional category. Participants were given extra points for the demonstration of sustainable design features. Within a very tight timeframe, teams were required to design and develop detailed BIM models and documentation that include architectural and structural designs, building services designs and calculations, sun and wind analysis, energy analysis and consumption data, constructability analysis and model checking.
Commending Aidea’s work, the jury stated that “Aidea demonstrated good coordination and planning in their approach in producing a sustainable design. They also used analysis and simulations tools that work seamlessly with the BIM model. The judges were all very impressed by the way the team was able to demonstrate their use of BIM tools to great effect.”
Aidea’s president Abelardo Tolentino Jr. explained that their team’s entry demonstrated how Building Information Modeling (BIM) can be applied to the phases of a project, from environmental analysis, architectural and engineering analysis and design, construction, costing, scheduling and building maintenance.
In addition, he saw the competition as a good opportunity to showcase Aidea’s BIM capability. Considered as one of the global leaders in BIM, Aidea has been developing this technology since 2005. Receiving the award is an affirmation of the firm’s commitment to develop new technologies and products that are globally competitive.
Aidea’s collaborators for this competition included Tandem Engineering, NB Franco Engineers and CB Engineers.
