Quiapo Church begins security planning for Nazareno 2027
MANILA, Philippines — With about five months to go, Quiapo Church has started its security planning for the Nazareno 2027, noting that this year’s Traslación lasted nearly 31 hours.
Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan, Quiapo Church parish priest, said preparations are underway as millions of devotees are expected to join the celebration next year.
Licuanan said the security, crowd control and logistics concerns have to be planned well, noting the huge crowd and Manila’s narrow streets.
“It is very challenging to ensure that the celebration is orderly, solemn and safe,” Licuanan said.
He added that church officials would meet with the police, military and Malacañang ahead of the event in January.
He encouraged dioceses nationwide to hold local celebrations through the “Dalaw Nazareno” program, which distributes replicas of the image.
According to Licuanan, this would help address crowd management and promote wider devotion.
The theme for Nazareno 2027 is “Tuwirin ninyo ang daraanan ng Panginoon” (John 1:23), emphasizing the spiritual focus of the celebration.
