Road closures set around Liwasang Bonifacio on July 10 for rally

MANILA, Philippines — Motorists should expect temporary road closures around Liwasang Bonifacio, Mendiola and Ayala Bridge in Manila on Friday, July 10, for an "anti-corruption" rally.

The demonstration is set to be led by United People's Initiative, a group of retired military and police personnel that has been identified in previous protest coverage with pro-Duterte groups.

In an advisory Thursday evening, July 9, the Manila Police District said the following roads would be temporarily closed:

• Liwasang Bonifacio - 2:00 PM onwards
  • Stretch of Magallanes Drive from Jones to McArthur Bridge;
  • Southbound lane of McArthur Bridge from Plaza Lacson to Liwasang Bonifacio
  • Southbound lane of Quezon Blvd. from A. Mendoza/Fugoso St. to Quezon Bridge to Liwasang Bonifacio
     
• CRB Mendiola - 12:01 AM onwards
  • Stretch of C.M. Recto Ave. from N. Reyes to Mendiola
  • Stretch of Legarda from Figueras St. to San Rafael St.
     
• Ayala Bridge - 12:01 AM onwards
  • Ayala Bridge
  • East bound lane of Ayala Blvd from San Marcelino to Romualdez St.

The UPI previously led an anti-corruption protest at the People Power Monument in November 2025 that drew participation from Duterte-aligned figures, including Partido Demokratiko Pilipino official Jimmy Bondoc. PDP is chaired by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Alternative routes

Motorists were advised to use the following alternative routes:

Liwasang Bonifacio: 

• Vehicles coming from Plaza Sta. Cruz intending to use the Southbound lane of McArthur Bridge shall: Turn right to Dasmariñas St., turn left to Juan Luna St., turn left Plaza Cervantez to Jones Bridge to point of destination.
• Vehicles coming from A. Mendoza intending to use the Southbound lane of Quezon Blvd. (Quezon Bridge) shall: Turn right to Fugoso St., turn left to T. Mapua St. to CM. Recto Ave. to the point of destination.
• Vehicles coming from España Blvd. intending to utilize the Southbound lane of Quezon Blvd (Quezon Bridge) shall: turn left to N. Reyes St. to CM. Recto Ave. to point of destination.

CRB Mendiola:

• All vehicles coming from Quezon Blvd. and C.M. Recto Ave. intending to utilize Mendiola St. shall: turn left to N. Reyes St. to point of destination.
• All vehicles coming from Sta. Mesa Area via Legarda St. intending to utilize C.M. Recto Ave. shall: turn right to Figueras St. straight to Earnshaw St., then turn left to S.H. Loyola to point of destination.
• All vehicles coming from P. Casal St. intending to utilize Mendiola St., shall: turn left to San Rafael St. straight to Bilibid Viejo St. going to Quezon Blvd. to point of destination.

Ayala Bridge: 

• Vehicles coming from Romualdez St. intending to utilize Ayala Bridge shall: turn left to Ayala Blvd. then turn right to Taft Ave. to point of destination or shall go straight to N. Lopez then turn right to A. Villegas then left to C. Muñoz to point of destination.
• Vehicles coming from San Marcelino St. intending to utilize Ayala Bridge shall: turn right to Ayala Blvd. then turn right to Taft Ave to point of destination or shall go straight along San Marcelino St. then turn left to UN Avenue to point of destination.
• Vehicles coming from Ayala Blvd Eastbound lane intending to utilize Ayala Bridge shall: turn right San Marcelino to point of destination.
• Vehicles coming from C. Palanca St. Intending to utilize Ayala Bridge shall: turn left to P. Casal to point of destination.
• Vehicles coming from P. Casal intending to utilize Ayala Bridge shall: turn right to C. Palanca to point of destination.
