MANILA, Philippines - Grace Nono’s newest musical CD released by TAO Music will be launched on August 11 at the Yuchengco Museum in Makati City.
“DALIT: Ballads on Love, Loss, and Finding Heart Again” consists of ten Visayan-Cebuano songs that Grace Nono learned during face-to-face meetings with folk singers in rural inland Mindanao.
Born and raised in Agusan, Northeastern Mindanao, Nono is an award-winning music artist. For the past 15 years, Grace studied sung oral traditions from Philippine elders, infusing these with her own contemporary spirit to advance issues of living identity, environmentalism, women’s rights, and inter-faith dialogue.
She has been a featured artist at the House of World Cultures in Berlin, Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona, Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Music Village Festival in London, and held concerts in Paris and Monte Carlo.
To date, Grace has won over 40 awards, including Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS), numerous Catholic Mass Media, Katha, Awit, National Press Club, and other awards for her artistic and cultural contributions.
