Let there be light

As dusk settled over Manila during a half moon, dahlings, the whole stretch of Sta. Lucia Street in Intramuros came alive when 100 lampposts installed by the Volunteers for Intramuros’ Preservation (VIPs) were switched on in a ceremony that launched the first phase of the group’s lighting project. Held at the Baluarte de San Diego Gardens, palanggas, the ceremony was participated in by chairperson Betty Tenchaves, pres. Presy Ramos, director Susan Grau, Meralco pres. Chito Francisco, DOT Sec. Dick and Olongapo Mayor Kate Gordon, diplomats and the Intramuros business community.

The lighting project is part of DOT’s "Rediscovering Intramuros" for the "Visit Philippines 2003" program, which aims to bring back the old Intramuros and make it a safe and enjoyable place to go.

A cultural market to showcase regional products, guided and walking tours of the wall and its museums and historical structures, a Cafe at the Wall and a Light and Sound Museum all aim to bring back the glory days of Intramuros.

For inquiries on how to join or donate to VIPs, contact Betsy T. at 911-5403 or Presy R. at 627-3820.

The following week, Pampanga’s fashionistas were treated to a fusion of upbeat couture and fantastic food at Fashion Storm 2002, which presented upcoming designers from the Fashion Designers Association of the Phils.
