Culinary advocate and author Jam Melchor officially launched his highly anticipated book entitled “Kayumanggi” in an event hosted by Sheraton Manila Hotel and Newport World Resorts.

The event brought together esteemed guests, including MaryKay Carlson, US Ambassador to the Philippines, alongside key officials from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Kayumanggi (the Tagalog word used to describe the skin tone of Filipinos) is a tribute to the rich and diverse culinary heritage of the Philippines.

The book, authored by the chef of the American ambassador, highlights indigenous ingredients, heirloom recipes and the deep cultural roots of Filipino cuisine. The new Filipino cookbook serves as both a celebration of the country’s gastronomic traditions and a call to preserve and promote Filipino food on the global stage.

During the launch, Jam expressed his gratitude saying “This book is a labor of love, a testament to our rich Filipino culinary identity. It is my hope that Kayumanggi will serve as an inspiration for future generations to embrace and take pride in our indigenous flavors and traditions.”

Ambassador Carlson commended the initiative, emphasizing the role of Filipino cuisine in fostering cultural diplomacy.

DTI officials, meanwhile, reinforced their commitment to supporting the local food industry and showcasing Filipino culinary excellence to the world. The event featured a carefully selected tasting menu inspired by recipes from the book. Guests were able to enjoy the vibrant flavors of Filipino cuisine. Engaging discussions and interviews provided insights into the creative process behind Kayumanggi, further solidifying its significance in the Philippine culinary landscape.

With the successful launch of Kayumanggi, Jam continues his mission of championing Filipino food culture, ensuring that the country’s rich culinary heritage is preserved, celebrated, and shared with the world.

(The book will be available starting April, which is Filipino Food Month. Watch out for the distributing system they will prepare on social media with the Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement’s platform on Facebook and @chefjamme on Instagram.)

Wolfgang’s at Newport Resorts World is the newest hot bed of music with musical director Gino Cruz taking charge. Upon the completion of the renovation of a portion of the original restaurant, the idea of a proper supper club contributed to the birth of Wolfgang’s Live!

The management wanted an elevated dining experience to go beyond just steak and wine. Enjoy their crab cakes, salads, T-bone or ribeye steaks plus their classic desserts such as the pecan pie and the cheesecake while listening to love music. *
