MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has signed an agreement with the city government of Baguio for the digital connectivity of the traffic system to promote road safety.

The agreement allows the LTO to link its data to the system of the city government for a smooth enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said this would be the first interlink between the agency and a local government unit (LGU).

“Baguio is the first major city in Northern Luzon to be linked with our information system. This exchange of information will be helpful in terms of traffic management, disciplining drivers and streamlining the payment of penalties,” Mendoza said.

The agreement may be adopted by other LGUs, the LTO said. Its  implementation will be constantly monitored to ensure its success.

The interconnectivity is crucial to Baguio’s initiatives toward smart mobility, which Mendoza said could serve as a model for other LGUs.

The LTO has been pushing for the digitalization of government services, including traffic enforcement to promote road safety.
