Agood friend and an artist I admire, Ferdie Montemayor opened his latest solo exhibition entitled “Uncompleting Lines” at Salcedo Private View, the gallery and private sale subsidiary of Salcedo Auctions.

Montemayor has received numerous awards and is a very popular figure in the Philippine contemporary art scene. He is a recipient of the prestigious 13 Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines and has mounted several solo exhibitions both locally and internationally. His work can also be found in the Singapore Art Museum and Pinto Art Museum collections.

“Uncompleting Lines” was a 33-piece exhibition that tells the story of the artist’s experiences, as well as the collective experience of those affected by these uncertain times. Visual elements on display are not mere groupings of random lines but are highly cohesive, giving it an animated visual narrative.

“Tik Tok 4” 30 x24in. Acrylic on canvas 2022.

This collection was all monochromatic, something he is known for and has been practicing of late. I really love his linear monochromatic works as much as I love his old colored paintings, both of which I luckily have.

He painted a series of six works entitled “Tik Tok” that showcase people dancing, a very popular image in today’s scene. I loved the poignant piece “Iingatan ka.” His largest work, “Conference,” is 10 x 3 ½ feet, commanding the attention of anyone who steps into the room where it hangs. “1 Meter” depicts the masked, socially distanced human form. It is a powerful depiction of our lives today and is probably my favorite in this collection.

From the brisk sales of his latest, well-received solo exhibition, it was evident that Montemayor’s works are still highly sought-after.

The morning Zoom virtual event featured Ikeda Harris doing a makeup demo. Consumer engagement manager Katie Reyes was kind enough to send the virtual event’s participants some of the new MAC products and a little grazing box so we could have something to munch on during the event.
