MVP Group of Companies head Manny V. Pangilinan.

MANILA, Philippines - Just four days ago, businessman and philanthropist Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) spoke at the US-Asia Technology Management Center (US-ATMC) at the School of Engineering at Stanford University.

Established in 1992, the US-ATMC is an education and research center at the acclaimed Stanford University in California. They offer programs aimed at integrating practical perspectives into international strategic technology management along with analysis of research trends in selected areas of leading-edge innovative technologies. The goal of US-ATMC’s educational programs is to provide Stanford students in the fields of technology, science and engineering with the knowledge and analytical capabilities to focus on what will be important to success in the future.

The US-ATMC hosted MVP to headline a sold-out panel discussion event with the topic, “Business and Career Opportunities in Emerging Southeast Asia.” This marked the first time for a Filipino CEO to speak to students from Stanford, and the talk answered questions  such as: “What are high growth opportunities in the region?”, “What social or technology innovations are needed to spur faster economic development in this market?” and “How can one partner with a large conglomerate in Asia?”

MVP was the perfect keynote speaker for this event. Alongside a host of academic accolades, he has unparalleled business experience in the Philippines and Southeast Asia as the managing director and CEO of First Pacific, which handles diverse and innovative companies including Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), Manila Electric Company (Meralco), ePLDT, Smart Communications, Philex Mining Corp., and many more. The scope of First Pacific companies ranges from business, energy, technology, telecommunications, infrastructure, and much more.

At the same time, MVP has several philanthropic projects as well including sitting as chairman of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), PLDT-Smart Foundation Inc., One Meralco Foundation Inc., Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF), and is a director of the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), as well as the MVP Sports Foundation Inc., president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and chairman of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP).
