An edgier Crissa

Fashion label Crissa unveiled its newest collections at the Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 at the Main Atrium of the SM Mall of Asia.

The event, directed by Robby Carmona, showed Crissa’s edgier looks that were set to offer more interesting fashion options for the ever-changing tastes of Filipina fashionistas: Glam Bomb, Heavenly and On The Move.

Glam Bomb showcased a makeover on the classic denim, giving it a chic, fashionable and sassy vibe for a stylishly glam yet functional look. Modern romantic with a hint of fun and innocence defined Heavenly collection, featuring interesting pairings such as candy stripes paired with jacket jeans and smocked blouses matched with jumpsuits. The quirky fashion of the ’80s and ’90s got a modernistic update with On The Move featuring designs that showcased mini geometrics, romantic lace, dotted floral, classic checks and argyles.

Crissa was one of the participants of the Philippine Fashion Week, the biggest and grandest gathering of the country’s best designers and fashion brands. Now on its 12th year, the Philippine Fashion Week is held twice a year and has become the most anticipated fashion event of the year. Following a successful Holiday Collection presentation in May, the second installment of the Philippine Fashion Week showcased Spring/Summer 2010 trends from over 100 designers in shows held at the SMC Convention Center and at the SM Mall of Asia.

Lulu Tan-Gan’s piña knitwear

The Samsung Metrowear Icon show continues to provide a platform for Filipino designers to showcase their artful creations to the local fashion scene and promote them on the global stage. The event recognizes and honors iconic Filipino designers. Previous honorees were Joe Salazar, Auggie Cordero and Randy Ortiz. This year’s presentation showcased the works of renowned knitwear designer Lulu Tan-Gan.

To celebrate a body of work that spans over 25 years, Lulu and her creative team showcased timeless Filipino fashion that is both indigenous and innovative in line with Samsung Metrowear’s vision of establishing Philippine fashion in the global scene. Her being selected came as a result of her unique ability to combine fabrics and texture into beautiful pieces. In the Philippine fashion scene, Lulu Tan-Gan’s name has been synonymous with knitted fashion wear since 1986. Tan-Gan is best known as a designer label for elegant and timeless knitwear. She is also an active board member of the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines and tirelessly working in promoting the Filipino label to compete in the global market. Tan-Gan’s technique of blending contemporary design and indigenous materials was reflective in her 50-piece collection, dubbed as Piña Knitwear.

As the show took place after the onslaught of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, Tan-Gan and the organizers felt the need to join the rest of the country in the spirit of social consciousness and giving. Also on display during the show were unique furniture pieces from interior designer Milo Naval and Cebuano furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, all of which were offered to event guests via a silent auction. Funds raised through the sale, including a generous amount from Lulu Tan-Gan, were donated to ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya Program and Gifts and Graces Foundation.

The Samsung Metrowear Icon: Lulu Tan-Gan show was presented by Samsung with Celeteque, Doublemint, Smart Gold, Century Tuna, Sanmig Light, L’Oreal Professionnel and L’Oreal Paris. Special thanks to Delicioso, Members Only, NBC Tent, Zen Zest, Eurobev, Neo Day Spa, Jaguar, the Write Impression, Jewelmer and Janylin.
