Very much loved at 88

The recent birthday celebration of Doña Soledad Banzon de Jesus, the matriarch of the De Jesus family of Bulacan, was a true labor of love from all her children. Leading the scions was US-based realtor Manuel de Jesus, who organized the event as a reunion of the Banzon and the Cojuangco clans as well.

The proud mother, the widow of EENT specialist Dr. Felipe de Jesus, was an exemplary public official who at one time was the head of Bulacan’s Register of Deeds. A lawyer by profession, she belonged to the UP Class of 1939 and was a classmate of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

Doña Soledad’s birthday bash gathered Bulacan’s venerable set, and was a perfect opportunity for the De Jesus children to show undying love and devotion for their dear mother.

Happy birthday and enjoy more blissful years, Doña Soledad!
Farewell to a quintessential diplomat
German Ambassador Herbert Jess and his gracious wife, Micheline, have been quite busy attending farewell parties in their honor. One memorable party was hosted by Ambassador Enrique Syquia of SMO Malta and his wife Letty, and co-hosted by well-traveled ladies Fortune Ledesma, Mellie Ablaza, Agnes Huibonhua, Nena Casimiro, Nellie Bengzon and Nori Ongsiako. The Syquia residence was filled with laughter and fond remembrances that night. It was both a happy and a sad occasion because it was time to bid farewell to the Jess couple, who incidentally celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary that very same day. Many of us will surely miss Herbert and Micheline, who always regaled us with uplifting concerts and elegant parties.

Farewell, dear friends!
