CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Vatican-backed International Eucharistic Congress, hosted by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines with Cebu City as the chosen venue,

The congress from January 24 to 31 drew more than 12,000 participants from different countries

The Catholic Church describes the congress, held every four years, as "a pause for commitment and prayer to which a particular Church invites the universal Church."

The last Eucharistic Congress in the Philippines was in 1937 during the pontificate of Pope Pius XI. It was the first of its kind held in Asia.
