Never compromise basic values
“A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.” – Douglas MacArthur
As the national election is two days away, Filipinos continue to weigh their decision as to who to elect – I am one of them. I have heard debates and campaign speeches but up to this point, I am still making up my mind. I hold firm on the character standard in picking a leader.
As our country still recovers from the hard impact of the global pandemic, Filipinos need leaders who are people-centered, caring, concern, genuine, authentic, trusting, flexible, adaptable, supportive, encouraging, a good listener, optimistic, motivating, inspiring, empowering, dignified, grateful, good example, morally-upright, just, service-oriented, empathetic and compassionate.
The Philippines needs leaders who can foster unity, connection and collaboration among its people.
I look for a leader who is transparent and humble enough to admit mistakes and is valiant correct them.
So, I am choosing a leader who will not compromise basic values like honesty and fairness. They may be old but will never go out of fashion. Basic values can make this country a hundred times better. – Ana Igloria, [email protected]
