MPD reacts to STAR story

The Philippine Star

Dear Mr. Belmonte:

This pertains to the news item “MPD After 2010 Hostage Crisis: No More Bahala Na” by Ms Aie Balagtas See which was published at the Philippine Star Metro last August 23, 2015. Said news item allegedly brought displeasure and resentment among some retired and former members of MPD-SWAT as it denotes alleged incompetence on their part.

Please be informed that the leadership of MPD had called the attention of PSINSP Rolando Almendez, Chief, SWAT on the interview made by Ms. See and he vehemently denied saying such defamatory language specifically the term “Bahala Na” (come what may) which was used to describe the former members of SWAT. We presume that it was just the writer’s opinion and impression on the Hostage Taking incident which transpired five  years ago. Further, PSI Almendez also refuted saying that before, SWAT members do not undergo practice shooting but affirmed that he discussed on the countless improvements and efforts being made by the present leadership with the help of the local government.

It is in this regard that we request for fair and balance news reporting on the part of your writers so as not to aggravate nor incite malicious statements especially on the part of our retired and former members as we believe that they have done their best to live up to the name” the Manila’s Finest.”

Respectfully requests that this letter of mine be published or allotted with a space in your very respected and popular publication.

Rest be assured of our continuous support in your endeavors especially in the interest of public service. — ROLANDO Z. NANA, Police Chief Superintendent, District Director, Manila Police District
