Navy modernization

The Philippine Star

With sea disputes, illegal fishing, poaching and pirates in our maritime shores, the need to continue to strengthen our naval forces is very important. We accept that we have a weaker military so efforts to further upgrade, improve and modernize our Navy is always top priority. Capability upgrade is a long, long process to fruition.

The plan of the government to establish two more naval bases in Palawan, and from the present will boost PN mission capabilities. The bases will be home to new warships that will come from overseas, either donated or procured by our government. There will be guided missiles given for free by Korea plus two frigates and strategic vessels bought from Indonesia. There will also be patrol vessels coming from Japan. These new developments will greatly give and leave a heavy mark on the mission and function of our Navy. Also with the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) and presence of US troops and coming development of the site, it’s all green and go for a great, strong and reliable Navy. This is good for our nation. – Ned B.
