Espiritu, Coyiuto in Festival/Lorenzo Medel piano recital

Celebrated La Scala tenor Arthur Espiritu, leading concert pianist Cristine Coyiuto and outstanding Asian conductor Darrell Ang will perform in MCO Foundation’s Mostly Mozart Festival on July 11, 8 p.m. at Pasig’s Tektite auditorium.

Espiritu will render a concert aria by Mozart and another from his opera Il Sogno di Scipione. Coyiuto will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major with the Manila Symphony Orchestra assisting under Ang who will also conduct Beethoven’s “Eroica” symphony.

Ang won the 50th Besancon International Young Conductors’ Competition presided over by some of the world’s top conductors, sweeping up all its three different prizes. He also won the 9th Antonio Pedrotti International Competition for Conductors in 2006, and the 8th Arturo Toscanini International Competition in 2008. His Allianz Cultural Foundation Conductors’ Award in 2010/11 led to his directing the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2012, Ang has been the music director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne.

Fast-rising former piano prodigy Lorenzo Medel will give a recital on May 24, 7:30 p.m. at the De La Salle Green Hills Center for the Performing Arts. Lorenzo just returned from a highly successful year at NY’s prestigious Eastman School of Music under Russian pedagogue Natalya Antonova, with observers remarking on Lorenzo’s admirably rapid progress.

Profusely talented Lorenzo will render Haydn’s Sonata in C Minor, Stravinsky’s Firebird, Chaconne in D Minor by Bach-Busoni and Mendelssohn’s Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, with pianist Jourdann Petalver as assisting artist.
