AFP modernization

Maj. Anton Y. Saludares, PA (Ret), Valenzuela City - The Philippine Star

It is wrong to perceive that the armed forces modernization is a preparation for war with China. The AFP Modernization Program is already long overdue and the nation should be thankful the present leadership focuses to achieve an AFP with minimum defense capability, one which every Filipino can be proud of. I read in the papers that aside from the rehabilitation of Philippine Navy bases, access roads, bases and support facilities will also be built for Philippine Air Force soldiers. And more fighter jets will also be bought. I recall that during the recent air force anniversary, the President has promised for a stronger air force.

That all this is happening already will inspire our troops to carry out their mission efficiently and effectively. I am sure of this as being once a member of the AFP, modernization is really every soldier’s dream so that he can perform his duties better. With our military busy facing threats from insurgents, terrorism and bullying from China, modernization will not only boost Phl military capability. Phl will feel it has the strength to battle its enemies given an improved military hardware and firepower.
