Thoughts to guide us by (For March 2010)

- Elvie Punzalan-Estavillo -

MANILA, Philippines - The election seed we will sow in this all-too-important political exercise will determine the strength or weakness of our democratic system. It will, more than ever, put to litmus test our political maturity to distinguish good from evil, from what is beneficial for only a few and destructive for the great majority. Ultimately, this highly-charged election will set the future for our beloved land and the kind of life ahead for our long-suffering kababayans.

In this hotly-contested political season, campaigning has become increasingly and outrageously expensive. The mind-boggling amounts make our people curious and doubting Thomases of some candidates’ motives and agenda that lurk underneath.

Pray, pray that God illumine and guide us all, and that together we boldly ward off and reject any all acts that we deem are inimical to our country’s welfare. Only when righteous leaders are put to helm of power . . . can lasting peace reign in our Motherland and prosperity be truly shared and enjoyed by all Filipinos! Only then can we be emancipated from the corruption that has hounded and impoverished us, and, hopefully — our dignity and honor as a people redeemed!

Peace and abundance to us all!
