Letters to the Editor

Thoughts to guide us by (For January 2010)

- Elvie Punzalan-Estavillo -

MANILA, Philippines - Life is like music! As we chart our daily lives, we create the notes, choose the lyrics, adjust the tempo of the music to our lives that emanate from our experiences as we toil and grind each day. The music of life is a collection of events happy and sad, bad and good, rough and smooth, tough and pleasant, inspiring and despairing.

Life is made up of memories! Memories worth relieving and memories to hastily bury deep in the dustbin of forgetfulness. Memories comprise the music of our lives — the tapestry woven to form the mosaic of life.

Gratitude is the memory of the heart, while memories of events and situations significant form fragments of the indelible music of our lives. Music that echoes our sentiments, aspirations, love, hope, faith…

Though we compose life music individually, there are music that binds and intertwines us together — like the disastrous, howling sounds of Ondoy, the heinous Maguindanao massacre, the succession of fires, the twin-sea disasters, and the impending Mayon volcano eruption. The unbridled greed for wealth and lust for lasting power — root of the economic and political malaise severely afflicting our beloved nation. Its the music nobody wants to hear ever again!

The 2009 CD of our lives has ended! Barely have we began to compose the notes and lyrics of our day-to-day journey — to collect at yearend and encapsulate in our 2010 CD of life. As we start composing our life’s music, pray ardently that 2010 usher in abundant blessings for all Filipinos: That men and women, cloak in shining armor of honesty, integrity, patriotism and dedication, will emerge to rescue us from this dark-and-almost-hopeless pit of greed and corruption!!!

A peaceful, prosperous abundant 2010 to all!
