A new political movement

MANILA, Philippines - I saw your article about the “New Political Movement Launched” written by Ms. Helen Flores, dated April 28 and I would like to give my personal views about it.

The good Sen. Richard Gordon manifested a kind of leadership which possesses a heart that thinks and a mind that feels. Bagumbayan, that relaunched was not just like any other political movement in the sands of history, it is a political movement which will endure the test of time, it will change the lives of the many and will brighten the future of every Filipino. It’s overwhelming to know that amidst all the political issues, uprisings and different movements that we have in the country, there is Bagumbayan which does not only aim for political seats, or for their own personal interests, it does not only seek for power and demand for change but act to create change, act to uplift the life of every Filipino, act towards the common good. Bagumbayan is a call for unity, for volunteerism, to work towards change, towards progress.

Bagumbayan is a political movement with attitude, values and principle. It goes with a vision, a vision that aims high and work to achieve its goals. Bagumbayan makes me proud that I am a Filipino and I believe in Sen. Gordon for stating that “What our country needs is not a change of men but a change in men”. It is indeed true, we could only achieve our dreams if we commence the transformation within us.

In this contemporary world, in a world where we forget to look back on our past, from our roots and tend to neglect our history, here we have a Bagumbayan, which honors and gives back to our heroes what they have done for us, and to live from what they died for. Bagumbayan is something I am looking forward to lead us and be a part of. It instills to every individual values, volunteerism and love for hard work and promotes unselfishly the welfare of the many.

Bagumbayan calls for change. Let us be a part of this bandwagon of change. Let us start it within ourselves. Let us move on, move forward. Chary Lou R. Fantilanan, West Visayas State University, Iloilo
