Continue fight against corruption

-

Graft and corruption have become so prevalent in the country that it could almost be compared to eating noodles all week, three times a day. In effect, most of us have become desensitized to corrupt practices to the extent that we simply choose to turn our heads and look away.

However, the Senate hearing on the World Bank contractors and the past Senate probes into the fertilizer scam and Euro generals issue prove that even if there are anomalies in the government, many of these issues do not remain unseen.

Senators Ping Lacson, Miriam Santiago, and Mar Roxas, among others, have done commendable jobs during investigations in aid of legislation. Although these senators may have had their share of shortcomings, they nonetheless have exemplified courage and strong will to fight.

Though the Philippines is still far from being rid of corruption, the Filipinos should continue to hope and persist in the belief that good times will indeed come. We may not have a perfect government, but there remain a few good officials out there who, despite their shortcomings, have readily and ably redeemed themselves. As of now, all we can do is remain vigilant.  — Jay Belen, Cainta Rizal
