COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A 10-year-old boy died while two other minors were injured in an explosion that ripped through one side of a river in Arakan, Cotabato yesterday.

Arakan police investigators said the Grade 4 student died instantly at the scene due to severe injuries from the blast in Sitio Danao in Barangay Ganatan.

Two others, a 17-year-old boy and a girl, were rushed by emergency responders to a hospital for treatment of wounds.

Arakan police chief Maj. Reynante Pascua said the three were swimming in the river when an explosion rocked the area.

Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, Army 10th Infantry Division commander, said soldiers are helping police determine the type of explosive that went off.
