BDOF joins BSP’s Financial Education Expo
MANILA, Philippines — BDO Foundation (BDOF), the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, joined a gathering of financial education advocates – corporate foundations, financial institutions, industry leaders, organizations from the public and private sectors, policymakers, representatives from the academe and civic society groups – in the first ever Financial Education Stakeholders Expo organized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Participated in by more than 1,000 guests, the two-day expo was aimed at connecting and organizing stakeholders for the development of effective financial education initiatives and implementation of financial education policies.
Backed by the Asian Development Bank, the event was in line with BSP’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion and its goal to develop a financially literate citizenry, an advocacy strongly supported by BDOF.
Last year, in partnership with the BSP and the Department of Education, BDOF launched its financial education program for schools, an initiative that benefits educators and learners. The corporate citizenship initiative, currently being deployed nationwide, was designed to share lessons on saving and personal finance with public school students, teachers and non-teaching personnel.
Together with the BSP and the Overseas Workers Welfare Association, BDOF is working on a financial literacy program for overseas Filipino workers, their families and recipients of remittances. The development of a financial education program for soldiers – a tripartite initiative of the foundation, BSP and the Philippine Army – is also underway.
“We are one with the BSP in its efforts to empower Filipinos through financial education. Through the programs of BDO Foundation, we staunchly support BSP’s advocacy to develop a financially literate citizenry and, ultimately, its goal to achieve economic growth,” said BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito, who served as one of the resource speakers of the expo.
