MANILA, Philippines - A research led by the Far Eastern University (FEU) showed that freshmen students enrolled in nine private schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are generally conservative and politically apathetic.
FEU president and project proponent Michael Alba said initial results of the college freshmen survey conducted by the FEU Policy Center showed that freshmen students from the participating schools have low regard for politics.
“The respondents strongly opposed the legalization of divorce and are strongly in favor of reinstating the death penalty in the Philippines,” he said during the public presentation of the research results last Thursday.
The survey results showed that most of the respondents have not engaged in politics-related activities such as demonstrating for a cause, working for a political organization, or discussed politics among peers.
