SM Foundation scholarship screening begins

MANILA, Philippines - Aspiring SM scholars have reason to rejoice.

SM Foundation has started  reviewing and screening applications to its scholarship program for school year 2015-2016 in areas throughout the country. 

Screening has been conducted in Manila, Dasmarinas and Bacoor in Cavite; Cebu; Hernani, Samar, and in Davao.

Screening in other areas is being scheduled. For those who will qualify, it could mean the fulfillment of a dream to  earn a college degree and a better life.

To be considered for the scholarship grant are fourth year high school students from public schools with a weighted average of at least 88% by the second or third grading period. Income of applicant’s family must be no more than 150,000 a year.

Qualified applicants will be enrolled in any of the 83 partner colleges and universities of SM Foundation located nationwide. Scholars will enjoy free tuition in the following courses: BS Computer Science, IT, Information Management, Engineering (Electronics & Communications, Computer, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical), BS Elementary Education, BS Secondary Education  and  BS Accountancy/BSBA major in Accounting.

Scholars get a monthly allowance. In places where there is an SM Mall they may get part-time jobs during  summer or Christmas breaks to augment their allowance.

There are currently 1,450 scholars.

The scholarship program has produced over 1,900 graduates since it was launched in 1993.
