BASF Kids’ Lab celebrates 10th anniversary

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Over 400 students from Gulod Elementary School have fun with hands-on experiments to learn how chemistry is used in daily life.

Fun-filled experiments showcase the role of chemistry in protecting the environment and making people’s lives easier.

For the tenth consecutive year, BASF continues to educate children the importance of chemistry in our everyday lives through BASF Kids’ Lab in the Philippines.

With support from Malayan Colleges Laguna, BASF Kids’ Lab was held on Sept. 18 to 19 at Malayan Colleges’ campus. More than 400 students from Gulod Elementary School participated at  this  year’s  program. They  will  be  given  the opportunity to not only explore the fascinating world of chemistry but to  also  learn  about  natural  science  through  hands-on  and  fun experiments.

BASF partnered with Malayan Colleges Laguna to educate the children and raise their interest in science and chemistry. The 5th year Chemical Engineering students from Malayan Colleges Laguna and a number of BASF employee volunteers serve as on-site tutors to guide the children through the experiments.

“Education is a key focus of BASF’s social commitments.  BASF Kids' Lab focuses on educating children about the role of chemistry in building a sustainable future,” said Flor Pan, managing director of BASF Philippines, Inc.. “We hope to introduce the concept of sustainability to the younger generation at an early stage. To BASF, sustainable development reflects the commitment of individuals and organizations to combining long-term economic success with environmental protection for the benefit of the future generations.”

BASF Kids’ Lab is an interactive chemistry education program first launched at BASF’s headquarters in Germany in 1997.  Since it began in 2005 in the Philippines, more than 6,500 students have participated in the last ten years.
