Philex grants scholarships to Benguet graduate students

TUBA, Benguet , Philippines — Even going beyond giving grants to baccalaureate studies, Philex Mining Co. granted at least 15 scholarships for graduate studies to deserving beneficiaries  from  its host and neighboring communities in Tuba and Benguet towns in Benguet.

The educational program dubbed as Pusong Philex Post-Graduate Scholars (PPPDS)  for graduate studies including Law and Medicine,  has a funding of  P2.98 million. It is funded through the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) and the Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences (DMTG), two of the gold-and-copper miner’s campaigns in line with its corporate social responsibility.

“We are committed to help in the further development of our host and neighboring communities, especially in the field of education,” community relations (ComRel) manager Feliciano Diso Jr. said in a statement. “We believe that education is a very important tool to improving one’s quality of life, which will trickle down to his family and the community where they live,” he added.

The scholars are – Roxanne Baliton, Master of Arts in  Education, Ifugao State University (IfSU); Florence Cabuag, Doctor of Education, University of Pangasinan (UPang); Oliver Cas-ing, PhD, IfSU; Carol Dominguez, PhD, IfSU; Remy Dum-ao, PhD, IfSU; Debraliz Gabol, Master in Community Development, Benguet State University (BSU); Analyn Galutan, MA Education, University of Baguio (UB); Gina Gavino, MA Psychology, University of the Cordilleras (UC); Rejane Leo, PhD, IfSU; Sonia Mamaril, Doctor of Education, UPang; Elmer Montino, Master in Public Administration, BSU; Pistola Palubos, Bachelor of Laws, UC; Margie Panisoc, MA Education, UB; Rosemarie Yangkin, Doctor of Education, UB , and Kristine Joy Aritao, Doctor of Medicine who deferred for the next academic year.
