Intensively trained prosthetics, orthotics specialists graduate

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center Inc. (UERMMMCI) can now help more survivors of burns and other traumatic and disfiguring accidents after the graduation of their first batch of intensively trained specialists in prosthetics and orthotics.

This after they graduated their first batch of graduates of their pioneering Bachelor of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics program of the College of  Allied Rehabilitation Sciences of the UERMMC.

The graduates were  feted in simple ceremonies held recently  at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel.  

Among the guests , were Raissa Laurel and Jokat Ledda, the two Taft avenue bomb survivors, who have benefitted from the high tech devices made available through the school.

The pioneer batch consists of eight students trained comprehensively to a well-designed international standard curriculum based on the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO)  and  likewise is set to be accredited by the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics.

The five-year course, a blend of medical and engineering subjects, equips the graduates, for the first time in the Philippines, to build, design and fit, Prosthetic and Orthotic devices of the same quality and function as the rest of the world.
