DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines - – More than 900 math wizards from different schools in Northern Luzon participated in the Young Mathematicians’ In-House Intensive Training Program held here from March 27 to 30.

The participants are elementary and secondary students from La Union, Baguio City, Ilocos Norte, Laguna, Cavite, Pasig, Las Pinas, Tuguegarao, Quezon City, Olongapo, Villasis, Zamabales and Dagupan City.

The four-day training held at the Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI) was organized by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) of the Philippines.

During the opening ceremony, Mayor Belen Fernandez was cited by the organization for her outstanding contribution in the field of education noting that some Dagupeño students have already won in national and international Math competitions.

According to MTG president Simon Chua, students who excelled in the training will  represent the country in international mathematics competitions.

After the four-day training, MTG is to select the best of the best and it will train them this summer to represent the country in international competitions, Chua said.

â€œWe want to guarantee that those selected are really the best. We teach them higher and advanced math subjects and techniques,” he added.
