MANILA, Philippines - In line with its goal of making the campus a school of choice for sports excellence, Far Eastern University (FEU) – Diliman formally launched its top-notch Sports Center last Feb. 11. This facility will be home to many of FEU’s various varsity teams.
Designed to meet international standards, the Sports Center is the latest of FEU’s initiatives to improve its facilities across its various campuses and to reinforce its commitment to continue providing quality education to its students.
“Aside from the big boost that the Sports Center will give to FEU’s athletes who can expect much better quality of training from now on, students of FEU Diliman can also hone their athletic abilities in this world-class facility,†said university president Dr. Michael Alba.
The venue’s interiors are fitted with the best international flooring and sports equipment available in the market today, such as a top-of-the-line digital scoreboard, game timer, and shot clocks with officials’ table, as well as a basketball court with a first-grade maple wood sports floor system. Soon, the facility will also have a flexible floor tile system for the outdoor basketball/volleyball court that can be transferred to the indoor Futsal area for year-round active use. It is also be expected to have a library and a fitness center.
The Sports Center will complement the world-class artificial pitch on campus where the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 football games are held, and will accommodate basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, chess, pep squad and fencing.
Along with Alba, FEU Chair Emeritus Lourdes R. Montinola and former university president Dr. Lydia Echauz led the center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.
