Malayan Colleges forges partnership with global company

MANILA, Philippines - Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) recently inked a deal with Integrated Micro-electronics, Inc. (IMI) to strengthen campus recruitment and industry linkage as it continues with its aim of developing among its students the right balance of attitude and aptitude relevant to launching their careers locally and internationally.

“This partnership signifies MCL’s commitment to continuously provide excellent education and producing graduates that are highly sought after in different industries worldwide,” said Clarence Darro del Castillo, director of MCL’s office of student services.

The program, which is designed to track students’ career development and potential, will be a mix of instructional seminars and e-learning tools that will cover mastery of operations and processes, customer centricity, safety at the workplace, and latest application and technology trends in manufacturing and test operations.

Furthermore, it will provide a half-year-long classroom sessions and actual immersion that will provide competency-based technical, behavioral, and environment-health-safety courses supported by more than 35 subject matter experts.

“Experience is important, but experience with no theory is half-baked. Those who become successful are those who had the opportunity to apply the theory and then excel in application,” said Arthur Tan, president and chief operating officer of IMI.

Dr. Reynaldo Vea, president and chief executive officer of MCL, added: “As an outcome of our programs we want our students, by the time they graduate, to be able to apply scientific principles to the solution of real world problems. This program will significantly help us attain that outcome.”

IMI sees this partnership as having access to a pool of talented labor, allowing the company to leverage the next generation of leaders. “We want to bring the globalized mindset to Laguna and in turn make the local workforce world class,” said Tan.

The Laguna-based IMI is one of the top 50 electronics manufacturing services providers in the world. It also has manufacturing plants in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Mexico, Singapore, and China.
