Hong Kong’s FWD Group joins Leyte school rebuilding efforts
MANILA, Philippines - FWD Group, the insurance business arm of Hong Kong-based private investment group, Pacific Century Group, joins the international community to help the victims of typhoon Yolanda. To support the rebuilding of schools devastated in Tacloban and Ormoc, FWD donated a total of P2.56 million to the Department of Education’s Adopt-A-School program.
On behalf of the Group, FWD Group’s board chairman, the Honorable Ronald Arculli, turned over to DepEd Usec. Mario Deriquito three cheques representing FWD’s donation of P2 million, FWD Hong Kong’s HK$50,000 donation, and FWD Thailand’s THB 200,000. These amounts include donations from the companies and their respective employees and insurers.
“We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by typhoon Yolanda to the Filipino community, and would like to express our deepest sympathy to the victims,†said Arculli.
On choosing DepEd’s Adopt-A-School Program, he added, “In the aftermath of the typhoon, thousands of children have suffered huge losses. Allowing them to go back to school will help them recover from the trauma and bring some stability back into their lives. Today’s children are our future, and we must provide education to support them in achieving their dreams.â€
In Hong Kong, FWD Group was conferred the honor of “10 Consecutive Years Caring Company†by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services (HKCSS) in recognition of its commitment in Caring for the Community, Caring for the Employees and Caring for the Environment over the past 10 years. “Our participation in the rebuilding efforts in Leyte is an extension of our commitment to give back to the regional Asian community which we are a part of. FWD will continue to monitor the rehabilitation programme and see where else we can help in the long-term,†Arculli said.
