Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines and Poland forged yesterday a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation and undertake joint projects on higher education.

The new partnership will allow the exchange of academic teachers, experts, students, and PhD students between higher education institutions in Poland and the Philippines under agreed programs that will benefit both parties.

â€œSuch exchange may involve teaching and carrying out research assignments that may result in a joint study visit, joint report and publication subject to the standard observance of rights on intellectual property ownership based on each party’s local laws and international conventions on intellectual property rights,” the MOU read.

The agreement also authorizes the exchange of information in the system and structure of higher education; exchange of educational literature, information and demonstration materials as well as the organization of relevant exhibitions and seminars.

Signing the MOU were Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Patricia Licuanan, CHED Commissioner Ruperto Sangalang, Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Maria Zeneida Collinson, Polish Ambassador Adam WacÅ‚aw Jelonek and Consul General Fernando Lising.

The two countries marked their 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations last Sept. 22.
