Makati students to compete in World Robot Olympiad
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s team to be sent to the 10th World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Jakarta, Indonesia, next month, will be joined by 13 public school students from Makati City.
DepEd Makati officer-in-charge Dr. Dominico Idanan said the students won the chance to be part of the team to represent the country after their impressive performance at the recently concluded 12th Philippine Robotics Olympiad (PRO12).
Idanan, in a report to Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay, said the students from the Tibagan Elementary School, Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School and Benigno Aquino High School, were among the 54 elementary and 91 secondary schools all over the country that competed in the PRO12.
Binay congratulated the students for having done Makati proud and giving value to the efforts of the city government to harness technology to empower the youth through a public education system that is globally connected and dynamic.
Makati has the biggest computer-to-student ratio among the country’s public schools, and is the first school division to integrate computer subjects and computer-aided instruction in its curriculum. Idanan said during the PRO12 tilt, Tibagan Elementary School and Benigno Aquino High School both placed second in the Regular category of the elementary and high school levels, respectively.
Another team from Benigno Aquino High School also won third place in the Soccer category while Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School (NIYES) placed fourth in the same event.
Idanan identified the winning pupils from Tibagan Elementary School as Treasure Frias, Hanz Ashley Andaya and Zalvar Sampayan, and from Benigno Aquino High School, John Renz Tutaan, Irene Eliseo and Joanne Airish Capulong. They will compete in the elementary and high school Regular Category of the WRO in Jakarta.
