Gecolea book of haikus relaunched

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -Teresita Aviles-Gecolea, an 83-year-old grandmother of four , relaunched her book “Tendrils,” a collection of haikus and other poems, published and unpublished, in English and in Filipino. “Tendrils” is now on sale at a discounted price of P200 at Mind Master Publishing Inc at 116 Narra St., Project 3, Quezon City (tel. nos. 4351073 or 4211353). In this book, Gecolea shares her devotion and dedication to God, commitment to her family and her friends and her passion for the environment. “The collection of haikus and other short poems in this book is titled after the tendrils. These are the random outgrowths of my imagination trying to reach out to people, to share with them the beauty of things around us,” Gecolea said. “I wish some of these poems will also somehow cling to the reader’s minds like tendrils do,” she said. Gecolea’s poems appeared as early as 1953 in a magazine called “The Cross” and in other magazines such as “Mod” and “Homelife”.  As a grandmother, the author still writes haikus until today.
