Phl bags 6 medals in difficult Chinese math olympiad
MANILA, Philippines - A team of young Filipino math wizards posted their best performance and bagged six medals, including a silver, at the 10th China Southeast Mathematical Olympiad (CSMO) held in Jiangxi Province, China.
Gen Mark Tanno of Southville International School and Colleges won the Philippines’ silver medal in the Math Olympiad.
The Philippines also bagged five bronze medals.
The bronze medalists were Andrew Lawrence Sy of Xavier School, Jonn Angel Aranas of Makati Science High School, Mario Antonio Ongkiko of Xavier School, Harvey Eaton Uy of British International School, and Francis Concepcion of Philippine Cultural College-Main.
“I congratulate our Philippine team. This is the best performance of Filipino students in the CSMO since we joined the contest in 2005. The CSMO is one of the hardest math contests today,†said Dr. Simon Chua, president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG).
Tanno said he just studied very hard and prayed for the contest.
“We prayed that we would all be able to answer the contest questions. We thank everyone who supported us, our schools, parents, and especially to MTG, our trainer,†Tanno, who is also a medal-winning tae kwon do jin, said.
A total of 217 participants from 12 countries namely China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand joined the 10th CSMO
The victorious Filipino delegation arrived in the country yesterday.
