ANGELES CITY, Philippines – A week after the elections, local officials here, together with the academe and several organizations from the different sectors of society, troop back together in the city’s schools to help in their clean-up for the opening of classes next week.

Brigada Eskwela 2013, the Department of Education’s (DepEd) program for cleaning up campuses in preparation for the new school year, was launched Monday in this city at the Francisco G. Nepomuceno Memorial High School (FGNMHS).

Hundreds of volunteers from different civic groups, government and non-government organizations attended the said event to help out and provide resources to the cause.

According to DepEd Division Superintendent Luz Arreola, the amount of support gathered here in Angeles City is quite overwhelming because of the “diversity of volunteers who are willing to lend a hand in the program.”

She added that there will be some improvements made with the program this year.

â€œWe have been inspired by Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan who successfully planted thousands of trees in this city, which is why we added an environmental aspect to Brigada Eskwela 2013. This means that we will not only clean the facilities, but will also tend to the school’s gardens and backyards as well,” Arreola said.

Pamintuan expressed his gratitude to the educational sector, especially to DepEd, for their unwavering support.
