Institute opens new opportunities for hospitality workers

MANILA, Philippines - An institution for learning opens its doors to students who want to pursue careers in the hospitality and restaurant business.

The Pacific Global Hospitality Institute (PGHI), located in 1235 E. Rodriguez Ave.,  registered and accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in 2010, offers quality learning in a world-class environment.

Fueled by his desire to assist Filipinos who want to work in five-star hotels and establishments abroad, Louie Tiu, PGHI’s president, conceptualized the establishment of the institute.

As an institute of learning, PGHI’s vision is for its graduates to be recognized for their  skills and talents—qualifications—that will make them the preferred personnel in the international hospitality industry. To pursue this, PGHI’s mission is to equip its students with the knowledge, skills and discipline at par with international standards prevailing in premium hospitality-sector players.

Preparing its students to the demand of the hospitality industry, PGHI offers the following: International Certificate in Food and Beverage Services, International Certificate in Accommodation Operations and Services and International Certificate on Food Preparation and Culinary Arts. These intensive course programs are designed for students who have already completed a degree in hotel and restaurant management and other related courses.  Duration of its course offerings consists of two months equivalent to 320 hours or 40 hours/week, 8hrs/day.

PGHI is an approved center of City and Guilds of London (C&G), a leading United Kingdom vocational education organization founded in 1878 by the city of London.  This means that PGHI graduates are trained and assessed based on the international standards of C&G.  In the Philippines, PGHI is the sole approved center in Metro Manila.  Graduates are given the opportunity to be certified by C&G to allow them to further upgrade their qualifications that will enable to step up and jumpstart their chosen hospitality field.

PGHI courses hone, retool and upgrade what graduates of tourism and hospitality-related degrees learned from their former schools, giving them an edge among those wanting to join the highly competitive hospitality industry.  For those who have tucked degrees unrelated to the hospitality industry but would want to join the industry, schooling at PGHI is a pathway.  The school has partnered with Global Hospitality Placement (GHPA), a POEA-registered agency that handles the deployment of PGHI graduates. GHPA is a partner of the Worldwide Hotel Services whose branches are located in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China. The first batches of graduates of PGHI who qualified are productively employed in hotels in Macau and Hong Kong.
