Mandaluyong public school gets modern speech lab from Globe

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A public school in Mandaluyong now has a much-needed modern speech laboratory from leading telecommunications firm Globe Telecom, enabling it to train students to improve their English as well as Filipino speaking skills.

Globe Telecom said that aside from the Eulogio Rodriguez Integrated School (ERIS), they will also donate two more speech labs to other public schools in Mandaluyong City within the year.

Aside from ERIS, other Mandaluyong schools in the pipeline to get the speech labs that can accommodate 50 students per session, are Highway Hills Integrated School and Andres Bonifacio Integrated School.

Rob Nazal, Globe head for corporate social responsibility, said that the new speech facility will be used for English and Filipino language classes as well as Communication Arts classes of 3rd year and 4th year students, or K11 and K12 students.

“Globe enriches its social commitment to areas where it can make significant contributions. By utilizing our core strengths, our knowledge, our economic resources, and our passion, we are committed to enable the communities where we operate to be active and responsible members of society,” said Nazal.

Lawyer Froilan Castelo, head of Globe’s Corporate and Legal Services Group, said that in the case of Mandaluyong where the company headquarters is currently located, Globe did not think twice when approached by House Majority Floor Leader Neptali Gonzales II to donate a speech laboratory.

The speech lab is just one of numerous projects being initiated by Rep. Gonzales in Mandaluyong City.

“We did not hesitate to support this project since it is in line with the company’s advocacy to provide quality ICT-based education to the youth. And we are proud to say that this speech lab is equipped with the most state-of-the-art facility in the country today at par with those being used in prominent private schools,” Castelo said.

Gonzales expressed his gratitude to Globe for helping the government in such social responsibility projects, pointing out that the government alone cannot accommodate all the requirements of the various sectors.

“These days, we need modern equipment for the students who can no longer go to college so that they can be given a chance to develop skills that they can use to find a job. This speech lab will provide the training and opportunity to the youth to make them competitive,” the congressman said.

Mandaluyong currently has 21 public integrated schools with three existing speech labs in Ibis Integrated School, Mandaluyong Science High School, and Mandaluyong High School.
